How Climate Solvers Began
In September 2023, I wandered through the World Press Photo Exhibition in Sydney, an extraordinary showcase of contemporary photojournalism. What struck me were the many scenes of disaster — floods, fires and displacement — but precious little on solutions.
I’d led engineering and environmental companies focused on solving problems. Standing there, I thought: where are the images of progress, of people creating change?
Three months later, as I stepped away from executive life, that question lingered. I knew of major organisations tackling climate change, but that farmers, entrepreneurs, scientists and communities were also part of the story. I wanted to find them – to discover the people already cutting emissions or adapting to a changing climate – and to tell their stories visually.
In early 2024 I decided to act. The project took shape quickly, and I soon realised I’d benefit from structure, support and creative guidance. I enrolled in a Master of Arts at Photography Studies College in Melbourne, which strengthened the work through research, broadened my network, and added momentum.
The series celebrates practical optimism: from households working together to electrify their homes, to innovators transforming heavy industry, to regional communities rebuilding stronger after floods.
Climate Solvers aims to show that solutions are already here, and that everyone can play a part.
