As the world warms, cities warm faster. Concrete, asphalt, buildings and the machinery of modern life trap and amplify heat until a city summer becomes a test of endurance. These photographs were made during a heatwave in Tokyo in July 2025 with a thermal camera — a device that renders heat as colour, making the invisible visible and the unbearable undeniable. Blazing facades, overcrowded carriages, a lone figure beneath air conditioners still bleeding warmth into the street: a city running a fever it cannot break, and the people who find quiet ways to endure.
